Weekly Blog Post 1 - 4/7 - 4/11

This week in class, we worked on creating version one of our logos using Adobe Illustrator. It wasn’t super hard, but it was more time-consuming and tedious than I had expected. I had to relearn some of the tools since I haven’t used Illustrator like creating shapes and I also had to use the pen tool. I struggled the most with finding the right font because I didn't know how to add the front from my stylescape into Adobe Illustrator (which I ended up figuring out after my one-on-one meeting with Professor Brennan). I ended up with the first version I was happy with. One exercise we did in class was testing our logos in different size boxes: 4x4, 2x2, and 1x1. This was to see how the logo would look when it's small or needs to fit in tight spaces. My logo didn’t pass in any of the sizes, so I know I need to go back and make some changes. The font I used was too bold so when squeezed down into a smaller box it all kind of became one, and was not legible. I also got helpful feedback from Professor Brennan, which I’m using to fix my logo for the next version. The feedback I received showed areas I can simplify or change to make the logo work better and stand out more. Like using a different style megaphone that can work with personal space. I’m going to focus on making it cleaner and easier to read in all sizes and change the font to the one I have on my styles page. Besides working on the logo, we also started a new project in Photoshop. For that, we began outlining our faces, which I assume we will use later in future assignments. It was cool to switch to a different app and start something new. Looking back at what we did earlier in the semester, like the Griswold car project, this week’s work felt a bit harder. That project helped me learn the tools and how to work with layers and change fonts into objects for manipulation, but this week, we had to use all of that as part of our logo project. The logo project feels more serious because it’s about showing who I am as a person that future companies and clients will see. I think everything we’ve done before prepared me for this week. If I hadn’t done the earlier exercises, I would’ve been more confused or stuck when starting my logo. Overall, this week was a mix of designing, problem-solving, and learning new things. Creating version one of my logo took time, but it wasn’t too hard once I got into it. I know I need to improve it, but I’m glad I have a base to work from. The feedback and exercises helped a lot, and starting the Photoshop project was a fun change. I’m excited to keep working on everything and see the next version of my logo.
